AITA for telling my girlfriend to shave her Pssy hair after she told me to shave my beard?
Just a quick disclaimer: this story involves body hair, boundaries, and a really awkward relationship argument.
I honestly thought I was making a point, but the second I said it, everything got tense.
My girlfriend looked at me today and said, “Shave your beard, new year new you, right?” And the truth is, this isn’t the first time she’s brought it up. She doesn’t like my beard, and she asks me to shave it pretty regularly. From my point of view, it’s gotten annoying, because it’s still my face, my choice, and I’m the one wearing it every day.
So this time, instead of just brushing it off, I fired back.
I said, “Shave your Pssy hair, new year new you, right?”
The second it came out of my mouth, she got upset. She said I was getting way too personal and that it wasn’t the same thing. But in my mind, that was exactly the point I was trying to make. I felt like she was comfortable commenting on my body and how I should groom myself, but the moment I mirrored that energy back, suddenly it crossed a line.
That’s where I started wondering if I handled it badly.
Because yes, I was trying to prove a point about double standards and personal boundaries. But I also know I said it in a way that was meant to sting. I wasn’t calmly explaining how I felt. I was irritated, and I wanted her to feel the same discomfort I’d been feeling when she kept telling me to change something about my appearance.
Now I’m stuck between two thoughts. Part of me feels like I only gave her the same type of comment she gives me. But another part of me knows I chose the most uncomfortable comparison possible, and that probably made things more insulting than productive.
Looking back, I think what was really bothering me wasn’t just the beard comment. It was feeling like my preferences didn’t matter, while hers automatically did. I wanted her to understand how invasive that feels. I just may have picked the worst possible way to say it.
